LEO
Sire: Joe Reed II Dam: Little Fanny by Joe Reed 1940 Sorrel Stallion
|
Leo first made a mark for himself in the Quarter Horse industry as a lightening fast race horse. It is reported that he won 20 out of 22 starts. A trailer accident ultimately ended his racing
career and left him with a big left knee. It was under the ownership of Bud Warren that Leo became known as one of the all time great sires. Based on the records of his offspring,
Leo was prepotent and consistantly sired athletic ability as well as speed. Leo is best remembered as a broodmare sire. His daughters were not only successful on the track but
they were extraordinary producers as well.
"People sometimes think they are smart and can out figure everybody, but they can't. They're just lucky and I was lucky. Leo put me in the horse business. There wasn't anything I could do about it. It wasn't my fault, and he couldn't help it because he was a great horse."
Bud Warrren, Quarter Racing Heritage Series No. 7, November 1974
